When Madame Clicquot inherited the Champagne house, she didn’t just continue what was already there — she changed its course. In the early 19th century, she developed the riddling table: a slanted wooden rack where bottles were gradually rotated by hand until the yeast sediments collected in the neck. This innovation marked a turning point, making clear Champagne possible for the first time. At the same time, she expanded international distribution and crafted a bold visual identity for the house — with a yellow label that still stands out today.
Pinot Noir at the Core
Veuve Clicquot’s blends are built primarily around Pinot Noir, which typically forms the majority of each cuvée. The variety brings structure, acidity, and strong ageing potential. Chardonnay adds freshness, while Meunier contributes softness and balance. The exact proportions vary from year to year, but the house style remains consistent: dry, mineral-driven, and unmistakably Veuve Clicquot.
Scale with Precision
Veuve Clicquot has access to over 390 vineyard parcels across Champagne, with more than 80% classified as Grand Cru or Premier Cru. Full control over vineyard management allows for precise grape selection each year. A deep reserve wine library gives the cellar team the tools to craft consistent blends that reflect the house style — regardless of vintage conditions.
